Musician and entertainer MIKE PETRONE can probably now be called an official Cleveland music institution. February 6th of 2005 he was honored with Mike Petrone Day by Cleveland Mayor Jane Campell for his twenty-five years contributing to the arts in Cleveland. During those 25 years, he has led many of his own bands, written and recorded film scores, written and staged his own musicals and concerts, founded a local jazz and blues record label, and recorded nearly twenty CD's. He is widely acknowledged as a master of the jazz piano trio. His recordings are loved and distributed the world over. He can be seen in Cleveland, Ohio, Monday through Friday at JOHNNY'S DOWNTOWN in Cleveland's historic Warehouse District where he has been a mainstay for almost fourteen years. He has composed original film soundtracks for the movies, HARD PILL, CHRISTMAS AT MAXWELL'S, WAR STORY, THE LONGEST DAY, and FLATTERED. His musical FULL MOON received a production in Cleveland with Frank Dunlop of The British National Theatre directing. His musical range is renown, he has performed Frank Zappa's "The Black Page" with members of the Cleveland Orchestra at Ryneberger Chamber Hall, performed the Motown catalog with legendary Grammy winners, The Funk Brothers at The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, and played for virtuoso soprano Kathleen Battle at Blossom Music Center with Leonard Slatkin conducting, and with Oscar and Grammy-winning Broadway legend Jim Dale on the stage musical THE INVISIBLE MAN. As Mayor Jane Campbell recognized, he is truly one of Cleveland's prized residents. |
